About the Old Catton Parish
Council
Old Catton Parish Council has a
number of responsibilities
within the Parish. These include
looking after the recreation
grounds in Church Street and
Lavaré Park, including the two
pavilions, football and cricket
pitches, tennis courts, bowling
green and children's play areas.
The Council also looks after
most of the street lighting,
notice boards, church-yard, war
memorial and cemetery.
Within the Council there are
three main committees; The
Finance & Policy Committee, The
Planning & Property Committee
and the Recreation Ground
Committee. A full Parish Council
meeting takes place once a month
and it is at this meeting that
members of the public are
invited to contribute views,
comments and suggestions.
The annual Parish Council
meeting takes place in May of
each year where the members of
the three sub-committees are
elected. These committees make
recommendations to the Parish
Council whose responsibility it
is to make the decisions.
The Parish Council also
maintains a close liaison with
the Village Hall Management
Committee and has representation
on the Airport Consultative
Committee and the Bus Liaison
Committee.
In 2006, Old Catton Parish
Council was the fourth parish or
town council in Norfolk, and the
first in the Broadland area, to
be accredited with Quality
Parish Status. The Quality
Parish Status scheme is a
government led initiative and it
aims to enable parish and town
councils to work more closely
with others in the delivery of
local services and to better
represent their local
communities.
