Roger Campling’s day walks are about 6 miles long and
usually start at 10.30am.
The afternoon and evening walks are normally about 4
miles long.
On
the day walks we normally stop at a Public House for
lunch after about two thirds of the walk.
Bringing your own sandwiches can be a problem, as quite
likely you will not be allowed to eat these in the Pub.
Usually the Pub is contacted about a week before the
walk, to check they are open and can accommodate us.
They often require to know approximate numbers and, with
the number walking often varying between 11 and 26,
this has been difficult to estimate. I appreciate that
you may not wish to commit yourselves that far in
advance but,
if
you are a regular or fairly regular walker and know you
will definitely NOT be walking (e.g. because you will be
on
holiday etc.), it would be helpful if you could let
Roger know a week before the walk date.
Waterproof walking boots are recommended, particularly
in the winter or during a wet period of weather.
Please take care at all times. When walking on roads,
please keep to the right-hand side, facing oncoming
traffic.
If
it is a busy road, please keep in single file.
THESE WALKS ARE
PRIMARILY INTENDED FOR RESIDENTS OF OLD CATTON.
After the
“severe weather” on the day before, the
conditions for our walk at Blicking in
March were not as bad as we had feared.
The high winds that were forecast did
not materialise, and the morning
remained dry. We had a little rain in
the afternoon but this was minimal. Most
of the tracks were in good order,
although the paths near our crossings of
the river were very boggy as expected.
By coincidence the other walking group,
who we had clashed with the month before
at Poringland, again turned up at the
start of this walk. However, we made
sure we were back for lunch at the
“Buckinghamshire Arms” before them! In
fact the pub coped very well.

Tuesday
13th May
- an evening walk of approximately 4
miles, starting at 7pm from the car park
on Marriott's Way just over half a mile
north of Attelbridge (the same place
where we started our walk last
November).
Will
those coming please ring me (426585) any
time up to 5pm on the day of the walk.
This will be almost entirely different
to the November walk, but will take in a
few of the paths we used on our
Swannington walk in August 2005.
