Roger Campling's Village Walks

Roger’s day walks are about 6 miles long and usually start at 10.30am. The afternoon and evening walks are normally about 4 miles long.

The day walks normally stop at a Public House for lunch after about two thirds of the walk. Bringing your own sandwiches can be a problem, as quite likely you will not be allowed to eat these in the pub. Usually the pub is contacted about a week before the walk, to check they are open and can accommodate us. They often require to know approximate numbers and, with the number walking often varying between 11 and 26, this has been difficult to estimate. You may not wish to commit yourselves that far in advance but, if you are a fairly regular walker and know you will definitely NOT be walking (e.g. because you will be on holiday etc.), it would be helpful if you could let Roger know a week before the walk date.

Waterproof walking boots are recommended, particularly in the winter or during a wet period of weather. Please take care at all times. When walking on roads, please keep to the right-hand side, facing oncoming traffic. If it is a busy road, please keep in single file.

THESE WALKS ARE PRIMARILY INTENDED FOR RESIDENTS OF OLD CATTON.

Forthcoming Walks for 2010

We had another very pleasant evening for our 4 mile circular walk between Coltishall and Belaugh in early July. The paths and tracks were free from mud and generally in good order. Sixteen walkers enjoyed this ramble. Congratulations to Desmond Field who, in April, became our 8th walker to complete 50 walks.

Tuesday 7th September

A day walk of approximately 6 miles, starting from the Weavers Way Car Park at Bengate on the A149 between Smallburgh and North Walsham. The morning walk will be about 4 miles and the afternoon walk will be about 2 miles. If you would like to join us, please be at the 'New Inn', Worstead by 10.15am to order your lunch. It will be possible to walk in the morning only if you wish. Will those coming please ring me (426585); if you can do this by teatime on the previous Sunday (5th September) at the latest it would be helpful.

Sunday 10th October

An afternoon walk of approximately 4 miles, details soon...
