Roger Campling's Village Walks

Roger has been organising monthly walks in various parts of Norfolk for Old Catton since 1999. He is pleased to say that for 2011 a number of volunteers have agreed to help with the arrangements so that these walks can continue. The plan for 2011 is:

Five walks of about 4 miles (these will be on Sunday afternoons in January, April and October, and evenings in May and June).

Three walks of between 4 and 5 miles (these will be on Monday or Tuesday mornings, normally starting at 10.30am, in February, August and November, with lunch at the end).

Four walks of about 6 miles (these will be on Mondays or Tuesdays, normally starting at 10.30am, in March, July, September and December, with lunch after about two thirds of the walk).

Waterproof walking boots are recommended, particularly in the winter or during a wet period of weather. Please take care at all times. When walking on roads, please keep to the right-hand side, facing oncoming traffic. If it is a busy road, please keep in single file.

All residents of Old Catton are welcome on these walks, and a list of dates and organisers for the walks in 2011 is available from Roger.

Forthcoming Walks

Tuesday 14th February 2012

We will again use part of Marriott's Way for this 5¾ mile walk, but not the same part as in December. The walk will start from the small car park at Freeland Corner at the junction of Reepham Road with Fir Covert Road at 10.30am approximately, but we will first meet at the 'Otter' P.H. on Thorpe Marriott at 10.15am to order lunch, prior to driving the short distance to the start. To find the 'Otter', go out on the Reepham Road, pass School Lane to the left (on the edge of Thorpe Marriott) and the egg farm on the right, and take Drewray Drive on the left. At the T junction turn right and immediately left down Pendlesham Rise. At the bottom of the hill turn left and left again into the car park adjacent to the 'Otter'. The morning walk will be approximately 4 miles and will include a number of woodland paths and tracks. The afternoon walk will be about 1¾ miles, largely on Marriott's Way. It will be possible to walk in the morning only if anyone wishes. Will those coming please ring (or email) me (426585) by teatime on Sunday 12th February to let me know if they will be lunching.
