Old Catton In the 20th Century - From Country Village to City Suburb

In 2000, the Old Catton Society published this 104 page book.  Written and researched by two members of the Society, the book tells the story of the development of a small village close to Norwich, with a population of 600 at the beginning of the 20th century, into a fringe suburb of the city with a population of around 6,000 by the year 2000.

Illustrated with 42 black and white photographs collected by the Society, the book is based largely on the documentary and aural evidence of the senior residents of the village gathered by the committee as part of their historic archive.

Amongst its tales of day-to-day life in the village, the book focuses on events in the two world wars, the comings and goings of the Cat On The Barrel village sign, Catton Hall and school and church developments.
